Depth variation of seismic moment and recurrence interval in Japan

Abstract In repeating seismic event sequences within a specialized horizontal area, the moment magnitude is usually scaled with recurrence interval. addition to two dimensions, vertical dimension plays certain role in affecting scaling law. However, whether and how changing depth influences law remain enigmatic. Based on large number of earthquake records high-resolution epicenter locations recent decades Japan, we focus comparison between 3-D interval, which recognize as same distances. The results show that (1) applicable multiparameter models by visiting 1.8 million events collected during period 15 years; (2) an important Mo–SI relationship well variance moment–interval magnitudes; (3) rate, attributable plate convergence varies area influencing regional frequency.
